James Building Damaged Cornice Repair
Chattanooga, TN
Performed a facade inspection of a lightning damaged terra cotta cornice of the 12-story steel-framed James Building in Chattanooga, TN. Separated pieces of terra cotta fell to the ground as seen in the photos to the left. A completed assessment revealed that two terra cotta pieces required replacement; one dentil piece and one soffit corner piece.
A recommendation was made by IEI to repair the cornice. The plan involved removing the cornice cap pieces in both directions, at which point the broken corner soffit pieces were to be removed. Once the pieces had been removed, the structural steel surfaces were to be cleaned and replaced as necessary. At this point, the cornice could be rebuilt as before.
