Performed a structural and waterproofing investigation for Emory University of a concrete parking structure surrounding a high rise student housing building that had been converted to a plaza slab. The investigation was triggered by observations of numerous instances of spalling on underside of the plaza slab. The underside of the plaza slab was investigated using a visual survey, sounding for discontinuities in the concrete, impact-echo testing, and thermal imaging. The top of the plaza slab was investigated by removing current clay brick pavers and waterproofing system at various locations for observation of the current condition.
Investigation report and repair cost estimates were provided.
