The Truth about Parking Structure Maintenance: How to Protect your Investment

The Truth about Parking Structure Maintenance: How to Protect your Investment

Most people see the rugged look of a parking structure and assume they don't require much maintenance; unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Review the advantages and disadvantages of commonly encountered parking structural systems, including life cycle and maintenance costs, common deficiencies and repairs, and the importance and elements of a good maintenance program.

    Building Envelope Inspection

Building Envelope Inspection: How to Manage Risk and Reduce Liability

A piece of masonry falls from a building in the U.S. once every three weeks. It has taken personal injury, death, and property damage to prompt authorities having jurisdiction to implement requirements for façade inspections. This session looks at the history of façade inspection ordinances and why façades fail. Learn how a comprehensive façade inspection is conducted that covers the entire building envelope including waterproofing and the roof utilizing the latest technology.

Seismic Bracing Requirements for Nonstructural Components

Seismic Bracing Requirements for Nonstructural Components: How to Protect Building Occupants

During the 1994 Northridge earthquake, 80%-90% of the damage to buildings was to nonstructural components. Ten key hospitals in the area were temporarily inoperable primarily because of water damage, broken glass, dangling light fixtures or lack of emergency power. Ever since this earthquake, the code requirements for seismic bracing have been better defined. These requirements not only apply to essential facilities, but to any building components that could pose a life safety concern during or following an earthquake. This course covers the background of the requirements, which components are included or exempt, and how to specify vendor design of seismic bracing.

Physical Security Criteria for Federal Facilities

Physical Security Criteria for Federal Facilities: Bridging the Gap between Theory & Practical Application

Learn how to bridge the gap between theory and practical application of physical security standards for new and renovated DoD, VA & GSA buildings. Security Risk Analysis, terrorist threats, the affects and protection from blast and progressive collapse, and the generation of Security Design Criteria will be reviewed as related to Civil, Architectural, Structural, and MEP design.

OSHA Fall Protection Standards: Including the Latest Updates

OSHA Fall Protection Standards: Including the Latest Updates

Falls are among the most common causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths. OSHA estimates that, on average, approximately 202,066 serious (lost-workday) injuries and 345 fatalities occur annually among industry workers. To reduce these statistics, OSHA issued a final ruling on the General Industry Rules 29 CFR 1910, Subpart D, Walking-Working Surfaces update on November 17, 2016. This update includes fall protection requirements for low slope roofs, façade access, and ladders as well as a timeline for compliance. Because many in the industry either do not understand the standard, are unaware of the available OSHA interpretations, or prefer not to spend money training their employees, misinformation is being spread. This seminar provides comprehensive coverage of both General Industry and Construction OSHA Fall Protection Standards including the 2017 updates.
